MARION, Ohio – Marion police said a gun was found in a student’s bookbag at Benjamin Harrison Elementary School on Wednesday.
Police said the bag was left in a fifth-grade classroom near the end of the school day and when a teacher found it, the teacher noticed a gun was inside.
Marion City Schools interim superintendent Steve Fujii said all protocols were followed and the school just conducted safety drills this week.
Police told 10TV its investigation revealed it appears the small-caliber gun was inadvertently brought to school.
The gun was placed in the bag accidentally by a parent, according to police.
Police said they are investigating to see if charges are necessary.
