Sheriff's office: 3-year-old girl dead after being found in Alum Creek behind Blendon Township home

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the house is next to Alum Creek where the girl fell in.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — A 3-year-old girl is dead after an apparent drowning in Blendon Township Friday afternoon, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

FCSO said the girl reportedly left a home on Madrid Drive around 8 a.m. The sheriff's office says there were other children in the house at the time, so the girl's disappearance was not immediately noticed by the mother.

According to the sheriff's office, the girl was able to slip out the back door of the house that sits near Alum Creek. Upon noticing her disappearance, her mother and neighbors went looking for her before calling authorities just after 9:05 a.m.

The current was strong at the time she fell into the water, the sheriff’s office added.

Blendon Township Police Department officers located the child at 9:32 a.m. along the banks of the creek, got her out and attempted CPR. She was taken to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital where she died, according to the sheriff’s office.

While the incident remains under investigation, detectives do not anticipate any charges to be filed.
