Police: Officer injured in German Village crash

The crash happened on South 3rd and East Columbus streets after 12:45 a.m. and involved two vehicles, police said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An officer with the Columbus Division of Police was injured in a crash in German Village early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of South 3rd and East Columbus streets around 12:45 p.m. 

Police said a Hyundai Sonata heading southbound on South 3rd Street was approaching East Columbus Street when a police cruiser was heading westbound on East Columbus Street. The officer was responding to an emergency call for service and the cruiser had its lights and siren activated at the time.

The Sonata failed to yield right of way to the cruiser and the two collided at the intersection.

The officer was taken to Grant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and later released. The other driver was treated by medics at the scene.

Police said the driver of the Sonata was cited for failure to yield.
