COLUMBUS, Ohio — A beloved central Ohio food truck, The Galaxy Coffee, is celebrating its grand reopening at new permanent location.
The Galaxy Coffee is Columbus's only LGBTQ+-owned coffee truck and it is also one of the few worker cooperative, meaning the baristas are also the co-owners, businesses in town.
The business' focus on community is so strong they maintain a 'community jar' where all tips left by customers are collected to provide food and/or drinks to anyone who is unable to pay.
"The original idea for The Galaxy Coffee is to have a space in Columbus where everybody can feel like they can be themselves," said Jevonna Morris, one of the business's co-owners.
Over the company's first two years of operation, they have experienced many highs and lows.
Near the end of last year, The Galaxy Coffee truck experienced another mechanical issue that shuttered the business.
After a months-long hiatus, The Galaxy returned to operations. But, instead of traveling around to various fairs, festivals and farmers markets, the truck has set up shop in a parking lot on the northeast corner of High Street and Como Avenue in Clintonville.
"We went all around Columbus, but we always came back to Clintonville and built a regular base here," said Morris. "When we went on hiatus and looked for a new place to be, Clintonville was always at the top of our list."
One of the new elements developed for the grand reopening is the new drink "The Galaxy Latte."
"[It] is a little bit of a floral and fruity latte; a little bit of lavender in there with some sparkly edible glitter on top," explained Morris. "Of course, you have to have some glitter when you're at The Galaxy."
The Galaxy Coffee's new location is on the northeast corner of High and Como in Clintonville and the truck is open 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
