GAHANNA, Ohio — The war between Israel and Hamas has claimed more than 2,000 lives since Saturday when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel from Gaza.
Thousands of miles away in Gahanna, Ohio, 13-year-old Ben Berman is doing something to help.
Spread across the table in the living room are hundreds of blue and white bands, representing the colors on the Israeli flag.
He wraps them one by one and finishes an entire bracelet within minutes.
"Helping people in need is a good thing to do,” said Berman.
He and his family are Jewish. He said on Saturday he was on the computer when he saw a notification pop up on the bottom of the screen about the attacks.
“Innocent people shouldn't be just sitting there and there should be no such attacks on people,” he said.
His mother Melanie said he asked her and her husband if he could do something to help.
She said she wasted no time in giving him the support he needed.
He’s selling the bracelets for $5. The money raised will be donated to the Israeli organization Magen David Adom to help them with supplies and resources.
So far, he’s raised $200.
"The fact that he came in and he had this idea honestly, all I did was put it on Facebook,” said his mother.
Berman plans to make as many bracelets as possible, in hopes they will help the people of Israel.
"People should care because everyone matters no matter who they are or no matter what,” said Berman.
