GAHANNA, Ohio - Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools announced on Wednesday that Goshen Lane Elementary will be closed for the day for deep cleaning after something a parent said but later retracted at a PTO meeting on Tuesday.
The parent said it was a mistake for her to say her husband had been exposed to the coronavirus, superintendent Steve Barrett said in a letter to families and staff.
Barrett said the woman later clarified and said no one in her family was exposed.
The letter went on to say, "Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to close Goshen Lane Elementary today, Wednesday, March 11, 2020, so we can complete a deep clean of the building with plans to resume school on Thursday. All other Gahanna-Jefferson schools will remain open. We also plan to follow up with the Franklin County Public Health Department. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. This is a challenging time for school districts, and we appreciate your patience."
Barrett said in a press release: "Although we believe there is no cause for continuing concern, these kinds of statements cannot be taken lightly. As such, we are guided in our decision-making by our commitment to keep our students, staff and our school community safe and healthy."
