'It was traumatizing': Friend of homicide victim discovers triple homicide scene on south side of Columbus

Hambrick was killed about a half mile from the scene where the women were found on Saturday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Deandre Herndon found out on Saturday that his friend from high school, Darrell Hambrick, had been the victim of a fatal shooting on the south side of Columbus earlier that week.

Police said Hambrick was gunned down on Tuesday afternoon on East Moler Street. A man was arrested Saturday in connection to his death.

“Darrell was a cool dude,” Herndon said. “He had a good heart, you know, he was always cool with anyone who was cool with him.”

Herndon went to check on Hambrick’s home that he said is on South Ohio Avenue on Saturday afternoon and made a disturbing discovery.

“When I came to the house the door was ajar a little bit so I came in, walked in the house [and] I seen like a body laying there,” he said.

Herndon said he stepped out to call 911.

When police arrived to the scene, Sgt. James Fuqua said they found three women, dead inside.

“It was traumatizing. It was another reminder that the community is riddled with crime,” Herndon said.

Columbus police could not comment or answer questions about whether the two homicide investigations are connected.

Hambrick was killed about a half mile from the scene where the women were found on Saturday.

Police could not confirm how the women were killed but are investigating it as a homicide. No suspects are in custody.
