The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is doubling the size of its Therapy K9 Unit, from 2 to 4 dogs.
The unit includes:
• Mattis (Yellow Labrador Retriever), with partner Deputy Darrah Metz
• Stark (German Spitz), with partner Deputy Tyler McDowell
• Kit (Standard Poodle), with partner Sergeant Jason Ratcliff
• Woody (Labradoodle), with partner Lieutenant Mike D’Errico
The K9 unit will serve as a comforter to crime victims, as well as traveling to schools, events, and hospitals to help care for those in need.
With the creation of the program in 2017, the sheriff’s office is one of the only law enforcement agencies in the country with both a K9 unit and Therapy Dog program.
Sheriff Dallas Baldwin will make the official announcement Saturday at WAG Fest which will be held at Praire Oaks Metro Park.
“I am so pleased to be making this announcement,” said Sheriff Baldwin. “Since we began this unit last year, the amount of demand for the service these dogs provide has been tremendous. With our two new deputy K9’s, we will be able to serve even more people in need.”
