The Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center will be offering free microchips for dogs on Saturday.
The shelter will be giving the chips to the first 150 dog owners starting at 12:30 p.m.
The shelter said it is one of the best ways to identify a lost dog especially with the upcoming Fourth of July holiday where they see an increase of dogs due to the fireworks.
On Thursday, the shelter announced it would be suspending voluntary intake due to capacity issues and concerned with the upcoming holiday when many dogs typically end up at the shelter.
Due to having more than 260 dogs, the shelter has waived adoption fees for most dogs through the Fourth of July.
