Frank LaRose receives threatening mail containing ‘powdery substance’ at his Columbus home

His office said he has previously received threats of physical harm in recent months and has increased security presence.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A spokesperson for the Ohio Secretary of State’s office confirmed Monday that Frank LaRose had received and opened mail at his home that contained a threatening note and a “powdery substance.”

Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to LaRose’s Upper Arlington home late Sunday night.

His spokesperson, Dan Lusheck, said that after LaRose came in contact with the contents of the letter, he notified his security staff and took appropriate actions to protect his family from harm.

“At the request of local authorities, multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agents responded to the Secretary’s home, including hazmat and bomb detection units,” Lusheck said. “The suspicious materials were collected for further investigation, and the secretary and his family are safe.”

His office said he has previously received threats of physical harm in recent months and has increased security presence.

The incident remains under investigation.
