Police: Investigators looking into self-defense claim in north Columbus shooting that left man dead

Case information will be presented to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office for review and grand jury examination, according to police.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man is dead following a shooting in north Columbus Thursday evening, police said.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called on a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Fordham Road, located just south of Morse Road, shortly before 9 p.m. They found 37-year-old Dennis Peoples III shot in front of a house.

Police said Peoples was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at 9:31 p.m.

Details on what led to the shooting were not available, but police said on Friday that investigators are looking into a claim of self-defense.
