HEBRON, Ohio — The first 'super load' is almost at its final destination in Hebron.
This specific super load is 390,000 pounds and 200 feet long. It left Manchester, Ohio on Wednesday and will arrive in Hebron on Monday.
“I’m told it’s going to a plastic recycling facility,” said Matt Bruning, press secretary for the Ohio Department of Transportation.
ODOT has been preparing for the move for months and had to find the best route to safely move the heavy haul.
“'What route can handle the weight and dimensions of these loads?' We had to make sure it can fit under a bridge for example,” said Bruning.
Bruning said they have learned some things to make the next trip faster over the course of the week.
First, they will combine the first two days into one day by moving straight from Manchester to Lucasville. Then, they will adjust as they move through some hills in Pickaway County.
“We are going to work with the hauler to change the methodology there and raise the trailer as it enters Pickaway County. That means we will have to raise the lines and lights a little higher but that’s fine,” said Bruning.
This is the first of two dozen loads that ODOT will be moving. Some will go to Hebron and others will go to New Albany for the Intel plant.
“What we have learned from these loads might not work for the 900,000-pound loads. So we might have to adjust some things before they come through,” he said.
The 'super load' has brought people in the community together who want to see it go by. Bruning said if you are watching, just make sure to stay back.
“We want you to do so safely, so stay as much far off the route as you can. Try not to get into the caravan,” said Bruning.
The next 'super load' will leave Manchester on Thursday.
