NEWARK, Ohio — The Newark Division of Fire announced investigators have determined a fire at Bummie's Pub & Grub was caused by unattended cooking equipment.
The fire started around 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the bar and restaurant on North Cedar Street.
According to a release from Newark fire, smoke and flames were visible from the second floor of the building, which holds apartments.
"Despite aggressive tactics and extremely hard work by the firefighters, the fire spread to the void spaces in the building which ultimately resulted in devastating damage," the release said.
During a search, firefighters did not find anyone inside the building.
The fire lasted about three hours and was contained around 9:30 p.m.
Investigators determined the origin of the fire to be on the first floor in the rear of the kitchen and it was ruled as accidental.
