COLUMBUS, Ohio — Members of the Columbus City Council narrowed down their search for a vacancy to 10 finalists on Friday.
The vacancy was created by the departure of councilmember Shayla Favor. Favor was recently elected as the Franklin County prosecutor.
According to a release from the city council, nearly three dozen residents from District 7 submitted applications for the open seat. Each councilmember looked over the applications and nominated up to three finalists.
“We’re incredibly thankful to the residents of District 7 who stepped forward to serve their neighbors by applying for this important role,” says Council President Shannon Hardin. “Your willingness to engage demonstrates the strong civic spirit that makes our city great.”
Among those chosen as a finalist was:

- Kate Curry-Da-Souza
- Shaneece Green
- Tim Fulton
- Robert Leis
- Dorothy Malone
- Lisa Masci
- Bailey Phillips
- Densil R. Porteous
- Jesse Vogel
The Council has planned to meet and host a public hearing on Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. where they will hear testimony from the public about the finalists.
Members of the public who wish to provide testimony are asked to email KBMcCain@columbus.gov by 3 p.m. the day of the hearing. Those speaking will be limited to three minutes.
Council members are expected to nominate applicants for the vacancy and vote to appoint their newest member in early 2025.
