COLUMBUS, Ohio — Federal authorities are assisting the Columbus Division of Fire's investigation into an "explosion of some type" inside a pickup truck on the city's southside Tuesday.
According to Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter, crews were called out to the 2300 block of South 6th Street off South High Street for a report of a fire and/or explosion inside a vehicle around 1:20 p.m.
First responders found a pickup truck that sustained significant damage in a back alley.
Based on what fire investigators saw, Geitter said CFD contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to help investigate the explosion.
No injuries have been reported.
Geitter said Wednesday that there were no explosive devices found at or near the scene, but it "does appear to be suspicious and not an accident."
A reward of up to $5,000 is available for information leading to a conviction in this incident.
Sara Hall lives nearby and said the explosion was so loud that it shook her home. She was with her 1-year-old child at the home.
"We were playing kinda peek-a-boo and all of a sudden there was this loud boom," Hall said. "It was loud enough that it sook the windows, like physically shook the house."
There's no word on what caused the explosion.
Investigators are asking anyone with information or video of the incident to please reach out to them at 614-645-3011 or email to: Firearsoninformation@columbus.gov
