Sheriff: 2 injured in fiery crash in Madison Township

Deputies say a Toyota 4-Runner turned left in front of a Ford van, causing the van to hit the Toyota. Both vehicles caught fire.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — Two people were injured in a fiery two-vehicle crash in Madison Township Saturday night.

Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were called to U.S. Route 33 at Bixby Road around 10:35 p.m.

The sheriff's office said a 2023 Ford van was traveling westbound on U.S. 33. At the same time, a gray 2003 Toyota 4-Runner was traveling eastbound, turning north onto Bixby. The Toyota turned left in front of the van, which caused the van to hit the Toyota.

The Toyota faced south across both lanes of the highway and the van went off the side of the road, ending up in a ditch. After the crash, both vehicles caught on fire. The driver of the Toyota was pulled from the vehicle before the fire could reach the passenger compartment, and the driver of the van was out before the fire.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to Mount Carmel East in critical condition. The driver of the Ford was transported to Mount Carmel East, where deputies described their condition as “stable.”

The crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit at 614-525-6113.
