COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police identified the man killed in a shooting inside a grocery store in west Columbus Sunday evening.
Just before 6:45 p.m., officers were called to the Kroger located at 3600 Soldano Boulevard for a reported shooting.
Arriving officers found 26-year-old Paris Royal suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition where he was pronounced dead at 7:17 p.m.
Police said the incident began with an altercation inside the store between a security guard working at the store and a woman, who was a customer.
During the altercation, police said Royal entered the store and started fighting with the security guard. Shots were fired during the fight and Royal was fatally wounded, but detectives did not clarify who fired the weapon.
Investigators said the security guard involved in the altercation worked for a private company and Royal was not a Kroger employee.
Police have not filed any charges against the parties involved in the shooting. The case is being presented to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s office for review.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
