COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man is dead after a shooting Thursday afternoon in the Franklinton neighborhood just outside of downtown Columbus.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the area of Skidmore Street and Sullivant Avenue near the Dodge Park and Community Center shortly before 1:30 p.m.
Police say a man, identified as 18-year-old Marquan Payton, approached a vehicle when someone inside took out a gun and shot him.
According to police, Payton was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:03 p.m.
Homicide detectives are investigating and looking for any information about the SUV that fled the scene.
