COLUMBUS, Ohio — A west Columbus family has been forced to stay somewhere else for the Thanksgiving holiday after a car crashed into their apartment Sunday afternoon. The incident happened at an apartment complex on Murtagh Drive off of West Broad Street.
"You could just be sitting on your couch like any normal day and something bad like this could happen,” Courtney Taylor said.
Taylor said she was sitting at home with her boyfriend and two kids in their living room when a car came crashing through their glass sliding door.
Fortunately, no one was injured. In the aftermath of the incident, Taylor said she can’t help but think about how much worse it could have been, and thinking about her 20-month-old daughter who was seated next to her on their couch.
"It's so scary because normally she goes up to that window a lot and says hi to everybody and if she were right there that would have been bad,” Taylor said.
Taylor said she’s also worried about the impact this had on her4-year-old son.
"He found a bunch of dollars and he said, 'Here mommy, I'm gonna buy you a house with this',” Taylor said.
As Taylor works to figure out what’s next, this will also have an impact on her holiday plans.
"It's really hard because we can't do Thanksgiving and it takes away a lot of our money,” Taylor said.
As frustrated as she is by her new circumstances, Taylor said she’s grateful no one was hurt.
"I just want to know how he did that. It just doesn't make sense to me. And I wish we could get an apology,” Taylor said.
10TV reached out to Columbus Police for more information about the report are waiting to hear back.
Courtney said her plan for now is to continue staying at a hotel until she can make arrangements to apply for a new apartment in a different complex.
