Family, friends of Donna Castleberry come together in monthly remembrance

Seven months after she died, family and friends of Donna Castleberry returned to the site of her death Saturday.

Seven months after she died, family and friends of Donna Castleberry returned to the site of her death Saturday.

She was shot and killed by former Columbus police vice officer Andrew Mitchell on August 23. Mitchell is now federally indicted for other crimes.

The family says they still want justice for Donna's death.

They pray together and hope together, gathering each month on the 23rd.

"I wanted everybody to get together on the 23rd of every month until justice served, and we haven’t got justice yet,” said Donna’s mother, Michelle Dalton.

Donna’s family says they still don’t know all the events that led to her death.

“…Brought up beside this building, blocked in her car and killed by Andrew Mitchell. That we know,” said Bobbi McCalla, Donna’s sister. “We still haven’t been able to listen to the audio, we still haven’t seen any surveillance.”

Mitchell is currently indicted on federal charges. Donna's family thinks her case is similar.

“He’s charged with holding women against their will and not letting them go unless they perform sex acts with him. I can’t see how that’s too different than what he did to Donna,” McCalla said.

Donna's death is still being investigated. Mitchell's attorney says the Donna Castleberry case will go to the grand jury the first week of April.
