COLUMBUS, Ohio — Chances are plenty of Ohio State and Michigan fans will be enjoying a beverage or two during The Game on Saturday.
In the spirit of the game, the Gateway-University District bar Eupouria is betting on Ohio State winning in a big way. If the Buckeyes end up victorious against Michigan, the Eupouria owners will pay the tab of any customer who orders from their self-serve beer station.
For Ohio State student James Foster, it isn't a matter of if but where he will be watching The Game on Saturday. He's hoping for some free beer along with a Buckeye win.
“No, nothing beats that,” Foster said with a smile.
Eupouria co-owner Benjamin Morgan is ready to bet big on the game.
“I'm born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. I'm an Ohio State alumni, as are both of my partners in this venture. It is the greatest rivalry in all of sports,” he explained.
Morgan knows the stakes, but he is more than ready to pay the price for a Buckeyes win.
“If Ohio State loses, then it is a normal trip to the pub. Everybody pays on their own. If Ohio State wins then I will not feel so bad about punting off thousands of dollars on free booze for our customers."
He made a similar bet earlier in the season when he offered to pay tabs if Ohio State lost to Penn State, but he did not have to pay up that time. But this time, he hopes to have to pay.
“I am very prepared for it. It is definitely a bet I am eager to lose,” Morgan said.
That's what Foster is hoping for as well.
