Economic impact of the Arnold Sports Festival

Tens of millions of dollars expected to be generated by event.

The Arnold Sports Festival 2017 kicks off in Columbus on Thursday.

The four-day event features 20,000 athletes from around the world. In comparison, 11,000 athletes competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

The number of people who attend the Arnold is around 200,000.

All those visitors and competitors pump $54.1 million into the local economy. Hotel rooms alone generate a great deal of money. There are more than 17,000 room nights booked.

The Arnold Sports Festival has 70 sports and events, spread over 13 locations throughout the Columbus area, with the Arnold Fitness Expo being held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

There are competitions and events for adults, as well as kids. There is also a kids and teens expo that takes place at the Ohio Expo Center. It will feature challenging contests, games, hands-on demonstrations and drills, a fun zone with zorb balls, bounce houses, bull riding, face painting and virtual reality video games.
