The owner of the Easy Street Cafe in German Village said he will close the restaurant for good this weekend, but has plans to continue to make the staple menu items at the Red Brick Tap and Grill.
If you could fit 23 years worth of memories into one place, George Stefanidis would call it easy street.
"This particular location means the world to me. It's part of my heart. I love all my neighbors. I love this whole community. It's been very, very good to me," Stefanidis said.
The walls of his German Village cafe tell a story. So do the signature dishes and the long-time patrons.
"When you see this place that's been in business for over 20 years you hate to see it go anywhere," customer Brandon Holley said.
The Easy Street Cafe will close its doors for good on Saturday. It's a bittersweet feeling for the man who called the restaurant home.
"It's breaking my heart to tell you the truth. It's not easy. It hasn't been easy," Stefanidis said.
Stefanidis said the competition on Thurman Avenue and around Columbus is too much, but he has another idea.
While Stefanidis said it won't be easy closing his doors, right down the street at the Red Brick Tap and Grill, he will put the staple cafe dishes on the menu.
For some customers, it's not just about the location that keeps them coming back.
"The people. The employees. Freddy, George, everybody here makes this place pop," Holley said.
Stefanidis hopes they will follow because he says he loves his customers and that's easy enough.
"It'll definitely be missed, but we'll cruise on down the street," customer Van Holser said.
The last day to eat at the Easy Street Cafe will be this Saturday. Stefanidis said he isn't sure who will move into the space once he leaves.
