COLUMBUS, Ohio — An east Columbus man said his home on Lattimer Drive was shot up Thanksgiving morning.
Fortunately, no one was hurt, but Juan Bass said he hoped sharing his story would lead to those responsible being held accountable.
Bass said he is counting his blessings, despite what happened. He said the sound of bullets being fired through his home woke him up from a sound sleep.
"I stayed down for a second until the car took off,” he said.
Since then, Bass continued assessing the damage as he tried to understand how this could happen. He believes about 30 bullets were fired at his home, and there’s as much damage inside as there is outside.
"This is where I heard: the glass breaking and everything, and then there's another bullet… and then right here the bullet came through the TV,” Bass said.
Bass said he’s grateful his grandchildren, who often stay with him, are at their grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving.
"Thank God they weren’t here last night because they would've been watching their movies… and that bullet didn't strike them… They won't be sitting in the living room anymore," he said.
Now, Bass said he’s still trying to make sense of what happened.
"I don't know why this happened, but I'm not afraid of it. I just want the people out here in our communities, in our state to know that when you see things like this, don't be afraid to stand up,” Bass aid.
10TV reached out to the Columbus Division of Police for an update on the investigation and is waiting to hear back.
