Police: Suspect accused of fatally shooting man in east Columbus during dispute involving dog

Donnye Abrams is charged with felonious assault. The prosecutor's office will look at enhancing charges against him.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 23-year-old man was arrested after police said he admitted to shooting and killing another man during a dispute involving a dog in east Columbus.

Officers were called to a shooting that happened on the front porch of a home in the 1600 block of Oak Street near Franklin Park Conservatory on Saturday.

Police found 30-year-old Roshad Broadus shot inside the front door of one of the homes. He was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and died on Tuesday at 1:27 p.m.

Investigators learned that Broadus was in an altercation with the suspected shooter, Donnye Abrams, over a dog. During the altercation, police said Abrams pulled out a firearm and shot Broadus.

Abrams admitted to the shooting, according to court documents.

Abrams was arrested and charged with felonious assault. Columbus police said the case will be given to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office to enhance charges against the suspect.
