Marion Police Chief Bill Collins issued the following statement:
“It is our aim to be transparent and consistently connected with those we serve. While incidents like this are extremely rare, we understand that we are tasked with handling them the right way. We accept that our internal handling of this incident may be judged with the same level of scrutiny as the incident itself. As the Chief of this agency, I take this matter very seriously and have dedicated immense time and resources to examine the evidence to ensure the completion of a fair and thorough investigation. This matter is disappointing, an embarrassment and will be ultimately resolved through both the criminal justice system and a subsequent internal affairs process. Integrity will continue to be our driving force in how we respond to such adversity so as not to tarnish the hard work and dedication of the over 50 brave men and women who are working hard for the betterment of our community every day.”
