Dublin school district looks to replace roof at elementary school after latest issue

The district said at the upcoming school board meeting, the superintendent will present two resolutions to declare the roof replacement project an urgent necessity.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Deer Run Elementary School is looking to remedy the most recent issues with the school’s roof.

According to the district, the roof started leaking after a combination of melting ice and rainfall

The district then patched the issues of concern.

On Jan. 29, officials with Franklin County Public Health did an inspection of the school after receiving complaints about major roof leaks.

Public health officials took photos of water damage on the ceiling of some classrooms and damage on the wall of a room.

The report said the roof decking had visible damage in at least one area but did not have signs of past leaks. They determined there was no major damage, and the school was taking steps to address the issue.

The Dublin City School district hired a third party to do a mold assessment on Jan. 29. That assessment ultimately found there were no mold spores detected in the building.

Long term, the Dublin school district said they are planning on replacing the entire roof this summer.

They said at the upcoming school board meeting, the superintendent will present two resolutions to declare the roof replacement project an urgent necessity.
