GROVEPORT, Ohio — One person was injured after they were reportedly grazed in a drive-by shooting near a Groveport Madison elementary school Tuesday morning.
According to Madison Township police, around 8:15 a.m., a school resource officer inside Sedalia Elementary School heard shots and ran outside. The school was immediately put on lockdown.
Police say the shooting happened a block away from the elementary school.
One person was grazed out of the shooting but was not taken to the hospital. Two houses were hit, including one that just got new siding after it was hit by a previous drive-by shooting, according to police.
Officers did not provide additional information on a possible suspect. Police say the incident did not involve any students.
Neighbors shared Ring camera video of the shooting. In the video you see them walk out onto their front porch and they appear to be shouting to other neighbors across the street, asking if they saw anything after hearing shots fired.
Then you hear the woman in the video say, “that's them that's them! That's them!” Then you can hear what sounds like multiple gun shots. “Who are they shooting at?” the woman in the video asks.
Neighbors, who did not want to go on camera, said that this is the second time the blue house that was struck was targeted in a drive-by shooting.
Two Groveport Madison Schools are located one street over from where this happened.
A school district spokesperson told 10TV they secured the perimeter after the shooting, meaning the exterior doors were locked and no one was able to enter or leave the building.
The school day went on as normal.
