First responders removed a car from the water at Alum Creek State Park Monday morning; authorities are still trying to determine how it got there.
Emergency crews were called to the scene after someone called 911 around 4:30 a.m., saying they spotted a vehicle in the water near the dam.
Authorities from the Army Corp of Engineers had to shut down the dam to slow down the water being released. Divers from Orange Township Fire checked the vehicle and found the windows down with no one inside.
Officials say it appears the car went into the water at a high rate of speed, missed the rocks and hit an embankment when it landed in the water.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office says they contacted the registered owner of the vehicle. The Reynoldsburg woman told police her adult son used the car Sunday night and it was stolen after he left the keys at an establishment in Columbus.
This crash remains under investigation.
