COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man accused of shooting and killing a 51-year-old man in the University District last month was indicted on murder charges by a grand jury on Thursday.
Deshawn Caldwell, 34, was indicted on two counts of murder, one count of tampering with evidence, one count of discharge of firearm on or near prohibited premises and one count of having weapons while under disability.
He is accused in the shooting death of Paul Allgood on Oct. 26 near the University District Kroger.
Officers were called to the 1300 block of North High Street near the Kroger grocery store that day on a reported shooting. They arrived and found Allgood suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medics transported Allgood to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he later died.
Police believe a dispute between Allgood and Caldwell led to the shooting.
Columbus police issued an arrest warrant for Caldwell the day after the shooting. He was arrested on Halloween after he was detained during an unrelated incident, according to police.
He is scheduled to be back in court on Nov. 12.
