COLUMBUS, Ohio — A second 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection to the shooting death of a man in west Columbus earlier this month.
According to a release from the Columbus Division of Police on Saturday, officers with the United States Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the teen in Lima. The charge stems from the death of 19-year-old Gene Sutton.
Another 17-year-old boy was arrested by Columbus Police SWAT officers Nov. 11.
On Nov. 3, officers were called to the 1400 block of Demorest Road, just south of Clime Road, on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Sutton suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics took Sutton to Grant Medical Center where he later died.
Police said Sutton was seen on video meeting with at least two other males in the parking lot of a strip mall on Demorest. After the shooting, Sutton reportedly drove away in a pickup truck for a short distance before losing control on a bridge just south of Bonnie Court.
After the shooting, police say the alleged shooter and two other men ran into the Post Oaks apartment complex just north of the strip mall.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Columbus Police Det. Polgar at 614-645-4196 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
