COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 19-year-old man is dead following a shooting in west Columbus Sunday afternoon, police said.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called on a report of a shooting in the 1400 block of Demorest Road, located just south of Clime Road, around 3:20 p.m.
Arriving officers found a man, identified as Gene Sutton, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medics transported him to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead at 3:47 p.m.
Police said Sutton was seen on video meeting with at least two other men in the parking lot of a strip mall on Demorest Road. Following the shooting, Sutton reportedly fled northbound in a pickup truck for a short distance before losing control on a bridge just south of Bonnie Court.
After the shooting, police say the alleged shooter and two other men ran into the Post Oaks apartment complex just north of the strip mall.
Residents of Post Oaks and the surrounding area are encouraged to check their surveillance cameras for any footage of the suspects and contact detectives with any information.
