Coroner's office identifies man found dead inside burning home in west Columbus

The Columbus Division of Police’s homicide unit is investigating O’Dell’s death. It is not clear whether he died of injuries from the fire or by other means.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Franklin County Coroner’s Office identified the man who was found dead inside a burning home in west Columbus late Tuesday night.

Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter said firefighters were called to the 100 block of South Princeton Avenue around 11:30 p.m. after a report of a house fire. The fire was quickly contained.

The body of a man, who the coroner’s office identified as 31-year-old Robert O’Dell, was found dead inside the home. O’Dell was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m.

While it is unclear if there were other people inside the home at the fire, Geitter said there were no other reported injuries. 

The Columbus Division of Police’s homicide unit is investigating O’Dell’s death. It is not clear whether he died of injuries from the fire or by other means.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
