COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police have released the identity of a 16-year-old Columbus girl who was killed Wednesday night in what authorities believe to be an accidental shooting at a home in the Hilltop neighborhood.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the 500 block of South Eureka Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. on a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located Carlie Frizzell, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to Grant Medical Center by medics and was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m.
Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert told 10TV at the scene of the shooting Wednesday night that a 911 caller claimed the girl accidentally shot herself in the abdomen.
In an updated release issued Thursday afternoon, police said a suspect, who is known to the victim, has been identified. Columbus police said they are withholding the suspect's name until the investigation is presented to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.
Police also said in the release that their preliminary investigation determined an unintended discharge of a firearm did occur.

The fatal shooting remains under investigation.
