CPD: 1 critically injured following police chase in southwest Columbus

The pursuit started on Harmon Avenue after police responded to a shots fired call Sunday morning.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person is in critical condition, and two others are hurt after a car crashed while evading police in southwest Columbus Sunday morning, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Columbus Police Public Information Officer David Scarpitti told 10TV that officers were investigating a disturbance call in the 700 block of Harmon Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers said they located a large group of approximately 100 people. Scarpitti said multiple people in the crowd began shooting at one another, but no officers fired any shots.

While officers were trying to get the crowd under control, two suspects were spotted leaving the scene in a Dodge Charger. Columbus police attempted to stop the car, but were unsuccessful.

Police pursued the car, and it eventually crashed into another vehicle on West Mound Street near the Central Point Shopping Center.

Columbus police said both suspects in the Dodge Charger were taken to the hospital for treatment. The passenger is listed in critical condition, and the driver is described as "stable."

Scarpitti said the driver of the vehicle that was struck was also taken to the hospital. Police are describing that person's condition as "stable."

Police told 10TV that no one was shot at the scene on Harmon Avenue.
