COLUMBUS, Ohio — Family, friends, teammates and many more gathered Sunday to honor a Gahanna Lincoln High School student who died following a northeast Columbus crash.
Those who met at Mifflin Middle School released balloons for JaShawn Scott, who was just 17 years old.
A couple hundred attended and held balloons; blue — his favorite color, some “J” balloons and some number 11's — his football number.
JaShawn died as a result of the Oct. 12 crash at the intersection of Morse and Sunbury Road.
He played football for Gahanna Lincoln High School. Many of his teammates and former teammates came to the vigil to honor him.
JaShawn’s mom, Keshaunta Scott, told 10TV she is overwhelmed by all the support.
"I just want everybody to remember him as he was: goofy, loud, obnoxious and, most importantly, his smile,” she said. “Just remember him being bubbly and outgoing. Whatever you want to say, remember him that way.”
Jashawn saved seven people's lives by donating his organs. His mom said she didn't know he had signed up to be an organ donor, but couldn't be more proud.
