POWELL, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has revealed the name chosen for a 2-month-old elephant calf.
In a video announcement, the zoo says the calf has been named Frankie.
A donor family, who wished to remain anonymous, chose the name to honor their late mother who passed away in November.
Phoebe, a 33-year-old Asian elephant, gave birth to Frankie on June 16.
The funds provided by the donor family will be used to support an awareness program in local communities.
The donations will also help set up internal monitoring for a virus called Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV), which is the leading cause of death for young elephants globally.
Guests can see Frankie and Phoebe from 10 a.m. - 2 a.m. daily.
You can watch the full name reveal from the zoo below.
