Police identify 54-year-old man killed in University District shooting

Police said 54-year-old Jerry Harper Jr. was found shot multiple times. Another male victim was found nearby.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police released the identity of a man who was shot and killed in the University District last week.

Officers were called to the 400 block of East 13th Avenue, near the Ohio State Fairgrounds, the night of May 4 for a reported shooting. They found 54-year-old Jerry Harper Jr. who was shot several times.

Police also found a second male victim nearby in the 400 block of East 14th Avenue with gunshot wounds.

Harper was taken to Grant Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1:55 a.m. The other shooting victim was taken to the same hospital and listed in critical condition. There has not been an update on their condition.

Police did not provide additional information about a suspect or what led up to the shooting.
