COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police at Columbus State Community College say they caught a group of people in the act of vandalizing a statue of Christopher Columbus.
Campus police made the discovery around 3:30 Wednesday morning.
According to officers at the scene, a group of six to 10 people used paint to write graphic messages and vandalize the statue of Christopher Columbus. When officers approached, the group ran.
Investigators found paint cans and balloons with paint at the scene.
The college announced on Tuesday that they would remove the statue from campus.
The college issued a message to faculty, staff and students on Tuesday explaining the decision to take remove the statue that has been in place since 1988.
