The Columbus Board of Education has announced that board member Dominic Paretti resigned Friday.

The announcement comes after a report that Paretti left his position as a legislative aide for Rep. Janine Boyd due to sexual harassment complaints.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, complaints were filed against Paretti by two female colleagues at the Ohio House of Representatives. The women claim Paretti sent them lewd, graphic text messages late at night on two different weekends.

The House Speaker’s office told 10TV that Paretti acknowledged he sent the texts during an interview.

Columbus Board of Education President Gary L. Baker II issued the following statement and added that district staff will not be providing additional comment at this time.

"Earlier this afternoon, Columbus Board of Education member Dominic Paretti submitted his resignation from his elected position, effectively immediately. No reason was specified in his letter of resignation, and there are no indications of any concerns related to his service in the District. Ohio Revised Code (ORC 3313.11) explains the process of replacing an elected member of a board of education. My colleagues and I will begin that process in a timely manner."
