Police: 2 officers hospitalized after vehicle crashed into cruiser in downtown Columbus; driver arrested

The two officers involved in the crash were taken to Grant Medical Center for treatment and their condition was described as stable.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two police officers were hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into their cruiser in downtown Columbus on Friday.

The crash happened on West Broad Street and Marconi Boulevard around 2:45 a.m.

The accident report states that the police cruiser was traveling through the intersection on a green light when another vehicle hit the driver's side of the cruiser.

The driver did not stop and attempted to drive away. Two cruisers stopped the vehicle at Starling and West Broad streets — which is a half mile away from the crash scene.

Police said the driver tried to run away from the scene after being stopped, but they were found on Bell Street and arrested without further incident. The driver was processed for an OVI and was issued a citation for obedience to traffic control devices.
