Columbus police officer sentenced to 5 years of probation for dereliction of duty

As of Jan. 22, 2024, Brant is still employed with the division and is on relieved of duty status pending the results of an internal investigation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An officer with the Columbus Division of Police was sentenced Monday to five years of probation for dereliction of duty and failure to perform duty.

Nine charges were filed against Connie Brant in February 2023 as the result of an internal investigation completed at the direction of Police Chief Elaine Bryant, according to police.

Early last year, Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein filed a complaint in Franklin County Municipal Court alleging Brant did not complete or failed to submit reports involving eight aggravated vehicular assault cases along with one vehicular manslaughter case from 2016.

She pleaded guilty to five of the nine charges.

Brant’s probation begins Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, and ends Jan. 21, 2029.

Brant worked for the division for 24 years and was assigned to the Accident Investigation Unit in her last nine years on duty. She was relieved of duty in early October 2022.

According to police, as of Jan. 22, 2024, Brant is still employed with the division and is on relieved of duty status pending the results of an internal investigation being completed.
