COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus Division of Police officer was relieved of duty last month after officials said there is an ongoing criminal investigation into the officer.
The officer was relieved of duty on March 24 due to the investigation, a city official confirmed.
A joint state and federal investigation was launched, but it remains unknown what the officer is being investigated for. The officer's personnel file states that the investigation was initiated in early February.
When asked about the investigation, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said he believes it will be carried out completely and thoroughly.
"I know they're going to be thoughtful, complete, thorough and the information we get will be as accurate as it can be," he said.
At this time, there are no charges filed against the officer.
There is currently no information on when the investigation will be complete.
