The Columbus Division of Police said Officer Jason Jackson has passed away after a battle against cancer. He was 47.
“We are extremely saddened to share with you that one of our kindest, most gentle, big-hearted officers lost his battle with cancer this morning,” police wrote in a Facebook post.
He leaves behind a wife and four children.
Officer Jackson spent more than 20 years with Columbus police.
“Officer Jackson had a love of life, a love of community, a love of educating teens about policing through the Columbus Police Explorers program,” police said. “Our hearts are heavy for his father Chief James Jackson and the rest of his family who were by his side until the end.”
