COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus police officer who was seriously injured after being struck by construction equipment last month was released from the hospital on Thursday.

The Columbus Division of Police shared the update to Facebook with photos of a “clap-out” honoring the officer who just ended a monthlong hospital stay.

The incident happened at Trabue Road and Quarry Trails Drive on Oct. 11. Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said a construction worker called 911, claiming that an officer was working on special duty for a project with AEP and was struck by some type of construction equipment.

Columbus police responded to the call within a minute and offered medical aid until medics arrived.

The officer was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.

The name of the officer who was injured was never released, but Albert did say that they were a 26-year veteran of the police department.

“Though he’s been released from rehab, the road to recovery continues,” the department’s Facebook post read in part.
