COLUMBUS, Ohio — Snow is in the forecast this weekend in central Ohio and snow plow crews across the region are mobilizing.
The Ohio Department of Transportation said it will have up to 150 crews out on the roads throughout the weekend.
ODOT has been preparing early by pre-treating the roads and making sure their equipment is in check.
Because it has been a milder winter, ODOT has more than enough material ready to go.
“We are definitely stocked up with salt throughout the district. We had about 56,000 tons of salt ready to go for this winter season,” said Hannah Salem with ODOT District 6.
The City of Columbus has also been readying its snow removal teams.
“This is what we do. This is what we are here for. This is what we are ready for. We have prepared all fall and winter for this stuff so we are ready,” said Scott Tourville, administrator of infrastructure management with the Department of Public Service.
The city plans to have about 40 to 50 crews out at a time throughout the weekend.
“We will have all our crews in early tomorrow morning. We will be monitoring pavement, forecast and things like that and once we are comfortable that conditions are improving we will start calling crews off,” Tourville said.
The city is also equipped with more than enough salt, thanks to the mild winter.
“We currently have a 150% of a season’s worth of salt on hand, so no concerns on salt usage,” Tourville said.
Both ODOT and the city are asking drivers to give their plows space on the road and to stay home if they can until the snow has been cleared.
