COLUMBUS, Ohio — A new program is providing pet food assistance to those who need it in Franklin County.
Columbus Humane teamed up with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to offer free dog and cat food to Franklin County residents who need help. During this COVID-19 pandemic, many are struggling to feed their pets.
"We see a community who is struggling and need help. We want to be the ones to help them," said Rachel Finney, CEO of Columbus Humane.
If you need pet food, you need to fill out an online pet food assistance request here. You will choose either pick-up or curbside-delivery and then fill out the necessary information. To receive food quickly, Columbus Humane recommends picking up if you're able.
To date, Columbus Humane has helped more than 500 families with pet food assistance. Finney said they are capable of helping 60-100 families per day.
"People think of Columbus Humane as a place for unwanted pets to go or a place to adopt a pet, but really a lot of our mission is to help families keep the pets that they love - to find a way to help them be successful and stay together," Finney said.
Columbus Humane told 10TV if someone needs support for rabbits, hamsters, Guinea pigs, or turtles, they can help them with that, too.
Columbus Humane is accepting donations for the program. If you have pet food you want to donate, you can drop it off in bins outside the facility located at 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct, Hilliard, OH 43026.
