Man killed in southeast Columbus house fire identified

The fire happened in the 3400 block of Marlin Drive, located north of Refugee Road, around 4 a.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man is dead after a house fire in southeast Columbus early Thursday morning, officials said. 

The fire happened in the 3400 block of Marlin Drive, located north of Refugee Road, around 4 a.m., according to the Columbus Division of Fire.

Firefighters saw a large amount of fire when they arrived at the scene. The second floor of the home collapsed as crews searched the house to see if anyone was inside. Crews were not injured. 

Firefighters contained the fire after 30 minutes, but the house was heavily damaged.  In the back of the home, the walls and windows were destroyed and a big portion of the roof collapsed.

The man killed was identified as 55-year-old Keith Poole, according to the Franklin County Coroner's Office. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
