Suspect in deadly southeast Columbus gas station shooting arrested in Sandusky

Isaiah Wharton-Howard is charged with murder in connection to the death of 28-year-old Michael Simmons.

SANDUSKY, Ohio — A man accused of shooting and killing another man at a southeast Columbus gas station earlier this month was arrested by the U.S. Marshals, police say.

Columbus police said 18-year-old Isaiah Wharton-Howard was arrested in Sandusky, located in northern Ohio, on Thursday. He is charged with murder in connection to the death of 28-year-old Michael Simmons.

On Aug. 3, officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to a business in the 2600 block of Noe-Bixby Road around 6:50 p.m. on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Simmons suffering from a gunshot wound.

Simmons was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 7:20 p.m.

Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
