Columbus Fire Lieutenant struck by lightning in 2014 passes away

The Columbus Division of Fire confirmed that Stuart Tudor passed away early Thursday morning.

A Columbus fire lieutenant who was struck by lightning outside of MAPFRE Stadium in 2014 has passed away.

The Columbus Division of Fire confirmed that Stuart Tudor passed away early Thursday morning as the result of an infection that developed recently.

They said the infection was attributed to injuries sustained from the lightning strike.

Fire officials said Tudor recently retired back on September 2.

Tudor was struck by lightning in June 2014 while at a charity event. He was a board member for Get Behind the Badge, a first responders organization which helps raise money for police officers and firefighters who are injured in the line of duty.

Tudor joined the force in 1991 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2002. After being promoted, Tudor spent some time as a supervisor in the fire alarm office, overseeing the intake of emergency calls and dispatching of runs.

Tudor retired from Station 10, on West Broad Street in the Franklinton area. He spent most of his career there and Station 17 in the Hilltop neighborhood.

There are plans for a memorial service to be held at the Columbus Professional Firefighters, Local 67, union hall, at 379 West Broad Street, October 23, 2016. Doors will open at 2 p.m., the service will begin at 2:30 p.m.
