Columbus police said the vehicle was reported stolen from Obetz on Sept. 10.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man is dead after he was struck by a stolen vehicle in the Milo-Grogan neighborhood early Wednesday morning, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

The crash happened at East 5th and Peters avenues near St. Clair Avenue around 1:25 a.m.

Columbus police say 55-year-old Malvin Love was crossing East 5th Avenue heading southbound while a 2012 Toyota Camry was heading west approaching Peters Avenue. Love was struck by the front of the Camry and knocked down.

The Camry did not stop and continued west on East 5th Avenue.

Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said witnesses saw the vehicle involved in the crash in the parking lot of Wang’s Chinese Kitchen at 777 East 5th Ave. near Interstate 71. Officers found the vehicle with severe front-end damage and no one inside.

According to witnesses, the driver of the Camry jumped out of the vehicle while it was moving and headed down Lexington Avenue on foot.

Albert said the vehicle was reported stolen from Obetz on Sept. 10 and believed the people inside it left the area of the crash before police arrived.

Officers are checking the area for surveillance cameras, according to Albert.
